Before the First Class
Steps 2 and 3
A: Your best piece of creative work before coming to this course
Design of a School • Architectural Design 3 • UniCEUB Source: Personal |
This project was made for the course of Architectural Design 3 in the University I used to study in Brazil before I came to Australia. We were supposed to do an after school building with four main classrooms, library, dean and coordinator offices, fully equipped bathrooms, changing rooms, schoolyard, canteen, large conference room, and a main entrance. You should define your classroom's themes and design each rooms accondingly. The school is around 800-1000sqm. It was designed and detailed in AutoCAD, 3D modelled in SketchUp Pro and rendered in Lumion 6.

Cathedral of Brasília • Oscar Niemeyer • 1970 Source: http://www.penaestrada.blog.br/brasilia/ |
This is the main Cathedral of Brasília, my home city. It was designed and built in 1970 by world renowned brazilian Oscar Niemeyer. What fascinates me about this great piece is how it perfectly represents the relationship between architecture and engineering. Niemeyer had everything, from sketch to beam, thought and planned. The archs are positioned in a way they sustain one another; the circle in middle is there to counter balance the tension created by the arcs; and the angles hanging inside generate the necessary weight for the circle to stay in place. And since it is underground, he thought about ventilation as well, creating his own natural system for the circulation of winds. All of this builds an engineering homeostasis.

Sydney Harbor Sunset and Moon • Luiza Naili • 2015 Source: Personal |
The ferry is one of my main transportation systems in Sydney. Last year, after a long day, I was gifted with this view. The sun was setting behind the Harbour Bridge and the moon was rising just beside it. The outline of the city always catches my eyes.
